I had a good laugh about this one. Solar power works in Germany, because Germany gets more sun than the U.S.! On a link to the article, one German identified as 3Nerd quipped, "As a German I must say I'm sorry for my fellow Americans. You must live in complete darkness."
I started thinking, though, that I may be giving the wrong impression on my blog, since nearly all of my pictures are of sunny Germany. Germany is a beautiful country, and I like to post pictures that show it in a, eh, good light, but the truth is, the sky can be overcast and eerily gray an awful lot of the time. So, here are a few of the many photos that didn't make the cut before:
above, Frankfurt in August; below, Frankfurt in April
The sun was trying to come out in September for the Rhine River tour, and it did--for a while. There was, however, no chance for sun in Hamburg in November.
downtown Berchtesgaden just before the rain (October)
beautiful Passau through the mist (October)
I could go on (and on), but I think you get the idea.

That stupid news article.... sigh, what can I say. There's so much more information about the failed solar subsidies, its relation to foreign production, technology innovations, efficiency improvements, and so on, but the economic concepts would be too complicated for anyone at Fox News to digest. I heard no mention of how we're still propping up the oil/gas industry with our tax dollars despite it being a highly profitable industry on its own! I just wanted to smack that chick who kept say "NatGas" trying to impress us with her jargon. How about we talk about the environmental dangers of fracking and the benefits of renewable, sustainable energy?? UGH! I'm just so mad at the ignorance and humiliated on an international level.
ReplyDeleteOne of my colleagues said to me, "American news is just terrible!" What could I say? Well, not ALL of it...
ReplyDeleteBwahahahaha. I literally just googled this 5 minutes ago because my friend in Prague asked me if I heard the latest from Fox News about Germany. There's a reason I've been posting sunny pictures from Italy, and why I was so excited about a morning of sunshine this week. Because beyond 30 second glimpses here and there, I haven't seen the sun SINCE ITALY. We came back January 6th, so Fox News can do the math on that one. They can handle that much math, don't you think? :)
ReplyDeleteOf course, the day after I posted this, the sun was out (not for long, though)!
DeletePforzheim is my hometown. Nothing to see there :-)
ReplyDeleteBut where the heck is it mentioned besides your headline?
DeletePforzheim was as close to the name "Philadelphia" as I could think of in Germany. There is a TV show in the U.S. called "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"....and it's not. ;)
